The Reluctant New Yorker

As life continues to evolve and transform, I find myself trying to keep up. I've started another blog about my adventures and experiences in the Big Apple. I will continue to post more personal writings here, but all my content about New York will be there. Please check it out and share with friends. Also, any tips or suggestions are welcome.

Here is the introductory post on the blog!

The Reluctant New Yorker

If you ask your group of friends about New York City, there is bound to be at least someone who has traveled to The City (yes, it gets capitalized). Visited, traveled, lived there for a bit, maybe even from here. When I first decided that after getting married I would join my husband here in New York, I was bombarded by numerous and varied responses. And everyone had their favorite part- Broadway, the architecture, museums, the food, etc, but most people were jealous that I was going to be living in Manhattan.
I, on the other hand, was apprehensive. I had visited New York before. One summer during high school I did an intern/study program here in the city. That was enough for me. Contrary to what I had been told before then, I found the city to be clean and people were friendly enough. I mean, not Midwest or Southern kind of friendly, but polite at least. But at 16 I found the city to be too big, too loud, too demanding for my tastes. And now at 27, it still is. However, finding myself here I am determined to take advantage of all the opportunities and experiences New York City offers.
I’m not from the city, obviously. Nor did I always the dream to move to the city to pursue a dream or career. I did not even put New York City on a pedestal as the epitome of a big city. What I’m trying to say is that I don’t romanticize The Big Apple, but that at the same time I want to make the most of my time here. So I’m starting this blog to chronicle the adventures and share some tips, tricks, suggestions, and insights on one of the most famous cities. Even if you’ve lived here you whole life, I promise there is always more to learn about this place. And if you’re planning a trip to NYC or moving here, I will give you the inside scoop.
