I Am Honors...

Here is the example of what I'm looking for as far as Honors spotlights.

“My name is Kristi. For the past two years I have been swimming at least five miles a day in preparation to swim the English Channel. I love hip-hop and ballroom dancing, particularly with the Latin beats. I enjoy reading and writing flash fiction and I love to study the 1930’s and 40’s. I’m a student, a teacher, a writer, a dancer, a swimmer, and I am Honors.”

Even shorter is great too- “My name is Kristi. I enjoy studying World War 2, hip-hop dancing, and long distance swimming. And I am Honors.”

Tell me who you are and why you are amazing.

Also, tell me (separately) what the Honors Program means to you. Whether you are officially declared or just investigating the program, tell me why you choose Honors.

Some people will be chose to do short videos for the online version of Insight, so give me everything you got!

  1. I am Sarah Beth. I like not doing my hair and still walking around pretending that I did. I hate black and white movies. I play make believe while I make homemade pizza so I can really be a gourmet chef. I hope to live in a small town someday. I enjoy the Romanticism and Gothic eras. Anatomy is my favorite subject. I love avocados and the color white. I have a blue bike which is named Azelma.I am Honors.

I chose Honors for the challenge. I like the variety of subjects that are taught for the otherwise boring GEs. I love the Maeser building. I like the smaller class sizes as well.

  2. I am Sean Watson. I think so much that I consider it both a hobby and desired profession. I eat nuts and berries, and meats that the mountain man would gorge, in my self-created mountain man diet. I enjoy reading about everything, learning about everything, and seeing everything. I am Honors.

I chose Honors for innovation. School became boring, and I needed a challenge and hands on, up-to-date inclusion in the fascinations of today.

  3. I am Margaret, a "non-traditional" student. I like learning about everything and everyone, finding beauty in the simple things around me, holding babies & playing with kids. I like photography, science museums, collecting seashells, and travel. I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a student. I am Honors!

I chose Honors because I really do like learning about everything! I learned a long time ago that the "advanced" classes are actually easier because they are more interesting, so I look for the Honors classes whenever I can, even as my required Honors credits are completed. When I told my sister-in-law about the Honors Great Works requirements, she laughed with me at the prospect of "having" to do something so cool!

  4. I am Jake, a skier, avid sports fan, world traveler, oh and i like studying sometimes too. i love making movies to with my red-carpet-worthy friends to show to an opening night crowd of 4. if i could i would live for a while in china and ecuador, but not in both places at the same time. economics is my desired field of study. is it because the major is short or because it is interesting? well, lets look at my utility function for economics verses other classes. I speak mandarin chinese. I am Honors.

I chose Honors because I enjoy the stimulation that comes from being with other honors students. Honors provides me an opportunity to prove to myself and the world that I do hard things, and I do them well. This is my education and I want the best i can get.

  6. Oops! Just saw the second part:

I chose honors because I believe it approaches education in the same way that one would learn a language--you actually have to digest it and find a way to produce more ideas. It's such a better system than just copying bullets and terms off of a powerpoint and then forgetting all those mindless facts after the final. I perform best in discussion-style classes and Honors never fails to produce those. I love learning, not memorizing!
