Hi everyone-
Today is the start of a new transfer and as my companion (Hna Villanueva) and I were reflecting over the transfer and all the miracles we saw, we decided to title this past transfer: " The Transfer of Miraculous Referrals". We went back and counted up about ten incredibles referrals that we got and were able to contact and start teaching. Just this week, we had a less-active member call us up and tell us she had a friend that wanted to learn more about the Church. We went right over and met her friend, Roxana, and went back later during the week to start teaching her. And then, I think I mentioned the referral from Colorado, but a family that was taught in Colorado and moved over here. We were able to start teaching them this week and the husband has finished the entire Book of Mormon! And still another one, we got a referral last week, but instead of an investigator it was a less-active member. That was confusing at first since the referral system doesn't normally do that. But one night we planned to go contact them. Then we forgot the direction so we had to run home and grab it- looking back, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. When we get there and knock, no one answers. But as we were walking back to our car, someone honks at us, and a car pulls into the driveway. We went back and it was the lady we were looking for. She and her children had moved from a ward on the other side of Houston several months ago. First they went to an English ward (they all speak good English), but since the ward is large, no one noticed them as new people to the ward, so they just stopped going. The referral came from their former home teachers who wanted to make sure they had some contact. Wow- the difference a good home teacher does! We had a great visit with them and she has a very strong testimony, but has struggled to go to church alone since her divorce. It's a reminder that many people need extra love and support as they go through transitions like that. Lots of miracles happening in the Texas Houston Mission! Like it says of Nephi and Lehi in Helaman 5:18-19 " And it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi did preach unto the Lamanites with such great power and authority, for they had power and authority given unto them that they might speak, and they also had what they should speak given unto them—Therefore they did speak unto the great astonishment of the Lamanites, to the convincing them, insomuch that there were eight thousand of the Lamanites who were in the land of Zarahemla and round about baptized unto repentance, and were convinced of the wickedness of the traditions of their fathers."
This last week we were able to go to the temple (finally!). The temple was closed for spring cleaning last transfer so it was a much needed for all of us missionaries to get back to the temple. I love the temple. I think for my whole life I am going to do all I can to plan to live relatively close to a temple. I wish we could go more often, but I know that's not our focus right now. After the mission. It was an absolutely beautiful session and going to the temple really grounds me. This is why I'm here. This is what I"m doing. I love that. If I could just get all our investigators to feel that feeling.
On a fun note, last preparation day we went up to the Woodlands Mall ( my companion and I as well as several other missionaries) to pet puppies. There is a pet store in the mall that has lots of puppies you can pet. So we did XD! Pure awesomeness. Then Hna V. wanted a dress so we went to Forever 21 to look for a dress. While she looked for a dress, the elders got some assistants to help them put together a pirate and soldier outfit for her. Then they played dress-up for just a little bit. Super funny. We ended the day with frozen yogurt. Super fun. Today will probably be more low-key : )
Like I said, transfers are this week. I've been here in Houston Seis for six months so it's likely I could be transferred. Only Heavenly Father knows. They are opening up 5-6 new Spanish sister areas to accommodate the new sisters and all the work! So I might be transferred and open up an area or train since we have 16 sisters coming in!! Crazy! Lots of good changes happening in the THM
We took a five minute modeling break during lunch one day- hope you like the pics!
Love you lots,
Hermana Kristi Koerner
